Password Policy
Web Wiz has a strong password policy for our internal use and our clients to follow to ensure services are well protected and our obligations with the UK government's Cyber Essential Scheme.
Passwords for services with Web Wiz would need to meet the following requirements;
12 Minimum Characters in Length
30 Maximum Characters in Length
1 Uppercase Character (A-Z)
1 Lowercase Character (a-z)
1 Number (0-9)
1 Non-Alphanumeric Symbol (!$%^&*.(){}'[],#~+-|:;<>?/\_@#)
For longer passwords using 'three random words' can help you remember your password. One way to get three random words is to use the what3words.com location application with the three words for a random location.
Many people tend to use their favorite sports team, name, or place followed by the year and a special character at the start or end (e.g. Bournemouth2020!) as their password. This has been observed as a common theme in compromised service accounts. As a result, we strongly recommend avoiding this format for your passwords.
The reuse of passwords is strongly discouraged. One of the most popular tricks for hackers is to get hold of your password for one service and then retry that password for your other services.
Remembering numerous strong passwords is a challenge. Writing them down is not a good idea, but a secure password manager from Dashlane, 1Password, or Bitwarden is a great way to manage your passwords.
